Waldemar Jezler

One of the more successful Brazilian-American investment bankers today, Mr. Waldemar Jezler, is best known for founding Libra Capital LLC, a financial services company focused on Brazilian financial instruments. Waldemar Jezler grew up in Brazil, and went to school in Brazil's largest city, São Paulo. At the University of São Paulo he received a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. Upon graduation, Jezler woraked as a management consultant with Booz Allen and Hamilton. Jezler eventually decided to head north to the United States where he enrolled at Harvard Business School to study general management. Jezler attended Harvard from 1977 through 1979 where he served as president of the Ibero American Club, and was a member of both the Agribusiness club and the Finance club. After receiving his MBA, Jezler returned to Brazil to work in business development, information technology and strategic planning for both local and international companies. After several job changes, Jezler began working at Bank of America's Brazilian Representative Office. Jezler served as a Vice President of Bank of America for most of the 1980s. In 1988 Jezler returned to the United States permanently after being offered a job in New York City as the Vice President of the First National Bank of Chicago. Though he was there for only one year, he made a substantial impact as head of the Brazil desk responsible for trading Brazilian defaulted and restructured debt. Jezler specialized in debt conversion transactions involving interbank lines of credit. By May of 1989, the month he left, he had generated over $5 million in fee income. Mr. Jezler left First Chicago to go in business for himself. Jezler founded Libra Capital, based in Rye, NY. Libra focuses on the structuring and trading of financial instruments in the Brazilian fixed Income market. Mr. Jezler is the president and founder and naturally plays a critical role in the firm's operations. When he can catch a break from the busy life of an investment banker, Waldemar Jezler enjoys tennis, squash, and skiing.
